Little Salmon River

Coordinates: Lat 45.475163°N, Long 65.278887W°

Little-Salmon-River Description: The Little Salmon River has a fairly long (about 1 km), sheltered intertidal zone and salt marsh bordered estuary. This is caused by the landscape effects of the deep canyon and the spit of cobble and sand at the mouth of the inlet. It has resulted in one of the richest, still relatively intact estuarine system along the north coast of the Bay and as such is crucial to the ecological health of the entire region. The Little Salmon River and its associated gorge just upriver are truly spectacular. This is also the site of the junction from the Fundy Footpath that allows the best access to the rest of the Little Salmon River Protected Natural Area, including the Walton Glen Canyon sites.

Nature Notes: The Little Salmon River Canyon and estuary is one of the true showcase areas of the entire Biosphere Region. This area is now part of a 706 hectare class II provincial Protected Natural Area.
