Quaco Head

Coordinates: Latitude 45.323743°N, Longitude 65.535143°W (coordinates of lighthouse)

Quaco-Head Description: A rocky outcrop and cliffs with a lighthouse giving a great view of the bay. This is also a great vantage point to see Isle Haute in the distance to the SE.

Nature Notes: Quaco is the name for the whole area in which St Martin’s is located. The name Quaco means “Haunt of the Hooded Seal” in a First Nations language. This is significant in that there have not been Hooded Seals in the Bay of Fundy region for a very long time. Also, some artefacts dating back to the Maritime Archaic period were found near here, dating back about 8500 years.
