Mapleton Acadian Forest Trail

Description: The Mapleton Acadian Forest Trail (MAFT) is a 3.5 km hiking trail located near Elgin, NB. This trail passes through reclaimed farm land and a former manganese mining plant.

Nature Notes: The MAFT includes interpretation signage throughout, drawing attention to the flora and fauna as well the human history of the area. The trail highlights include examples of sensitive and endangered forest and plant assemblages typical of the Acadian Forest. The MAFT is an exemplary model to follow for rural communities interested in trail development. The trail was built and is maintained by the Elgin Eco Association.
